Back to School, Back to Routine: Why September Is a Great Time to Start Tae Kwon Do.
The start of a new school year brings new teachers, new routines and, for many families, the search for activities that children can enjoy outside the classroom.
September is also a fantastic time to try something new – and Tae Kwon Do can offer children much more than simply a way to keep active.
A positive routine outside school
Getting back into a routine after the summer holidays isn't always easy.
A regular Tae Kwon Do class gives children something positive to look forward to each week, while encouraging them to develop good habits, listen carefully and work towards achievable goals.
As children progress, they can see the results of their effort through learning new techniques and working towards their next belt.

Building confidence
Confidence doesn't always appear overnight.
In Tae Kwon Do, children are encouraged to progress at their own pace. Learning a new technique, remembering a pattern or achieving something they initially found difficult can all provide a real sense of accomplishment.
Those small successes add up.
Over time, children can become more confident in their own abilities and more willing to challenge themselves.

Learning discipline and respect
Tae Kwon Do is a martial art, but kicking and punching are only part of what students learn.
Traditional Tae Kwon Do places great importance on values such as courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.
Classes encourage children to listen to instructions, show respect to instructors and fellow students, concentrate on what they're doing and keep trying when something is difficult.
These are valuable skills both inside and outside the training hall.

Keeping children active
With so much of children's free time now involving screens, finding an activity they genuinely enjoy can make keeping active much easier.
Tae Kwon Do classes involve movement, coordination, balance and a wide range of techniques, helping children develop their fitness while learning a skill at the same time.
And because there is always something new to learn, training continues to provide fresh challenges as students progress.

Making new friends
Starting a new activity can feel daunting, particularly for a child who doesn't know anybody there.
But everyone in a Tae Kwon Do class was a beginner once.
Training alongside other students gives children opportunities to meet people outside their usual school friendship groups and become part of a supportive club environment.

Do they need any experience?
Not at all.
Beginners aren't expected to arrive knowing how to do Tae Kwon Do – that's what the classes are for!
Children can start with no previous martial arts experience, and they'll be introduced to the basics as they begin their training.
They don't need to be particularly sporty or flexible either. The important thing is being willing to have a go.

Why not try a class this September?
If you've been looking for a new activity for your child as the school year begins, Tae Kwon Do could be a great one to try.
We offer a FREE taster class, giving your child the opportunity to come along, meet us and experience a Tae Kwon Do lesson before you decide whether it's right for them.
Classes are available at our Whitchurch, Malpas and Oswestry Tae Kwon Do clubs.
Come along and give Tae Kwon Do a try.
